Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH) Lodging and Information
Navy Specific Mission
Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH)’s primary mission is to support surface ships and submarines, as well as maintenance and training. Pearl Harbor can accommodate the largest ships in the fleet and is now home to over 160 commands.
Air Force Specific Mission
The Pacific Command (PACAF) is the major command. PACAF’s primary mission is to plan, conduct, and coordinate offensive and defensive air operations in the Pacific and Asian theaters.
JBPHH and the Daniel K Inouye International Airport (HNL) function as a joint military-civilian airport sharing airfield facilities and are regarded as one of the busiest airports in the United States.

Navy Specific History
Pearl Harbor was established as a Naval Base in 1908. It is a national historic landmark because of its essential contribution to the rise of the U.S. as a significant power in the Pacific and its crucial role in World War II, beginning with the December 7, 1941 attack.
Air Force Specific History
Established as Hickam Field in 1938, the installation was later re-designated as Hickam Air Force Base in 1957 with the formation of Headquarters Pacific Air Force (PACAF). The unification of Pacific Air Forces as a unified command was a historic “first” in which all USAF fighting forces assigned to the Pacific and Far East areas were consolidated under one command.
Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam Location
The main gates for both Pearl Harbor and Hickam Field are approximately two miles from the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam provides services comparable to a large city to a population, and the installation supports active duty from all services, guard, reserve, family members, and retirees.
Navy and Air Force Lodging
The Navy Lodge Hawaii is the on-base Pearl Harbor Lodging Facility. The Royal Alaka’i Hotel is the on-base Air Force Lodging Facility. Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam lodging eligibility varies, and reservations are available based on duty status and space availability. Temporary Duty personnel may be required to use on-base government lodging when directed by their command. Within each lodging priority, reservations and assignments can be made on a first-come, first-served basis without regard to rank or grade.
