Hawaii Lodging Taxes

Hawaii has specific rules around lodging taxes and how "transient accommodations" are defined.

Short-Term vs. Long Term Rental taxes apply depending on the length of stay. As a general rule, rentals of 180 days or fewer are typically treated as transient accommodations for tax purposes, while rentals of six months or longer are considered long-term in Hawaii.

Transient Accommodations Tax applies to all stays less than 180 days. If you are staying for several months, lodging taxes in the State of Hawaii, the Island of Oahu, and local Honolulu taxes, on top of the monthly rental amount, are an additional 18.712%. This occupancy tax applies to all hotel guests and renters staying at a property in Hawaii for less than 6 months.
